Shimla, August 9: The state of Himachal Pradesh is grappling with cases of Scrub Typhus, a disease that has made its presence felt in hospitals across the region. In IGMC Hospital in Shimla, there have been 21 cases reported so far this month, compared to 11 cases in the previous month of July. Authorities are expressing concern that September might see a further surge in cases. As a result, the Health Department is on high alert, issuing directives to all hospital administrations to tackle this disease effectively. The largest hospital in the state, IGMC, is witnessing a daily influx of Scrub Typhus cases.
Sanjay Avasthi, CPS in the state government, stated that during the monsoon season, cases of Scrub Typhus tend to rise each year, and although there have been relatively fewer cases reported this time, the number is expected to increase significantly in September. He assured that the Health Department is fully prepared to deal with this disease, having equipped hospitals with medicines and additional facilities.
Avasthi emphasized that there is no need to panic about this disease. People need to exercise caution and, if they experience symptoms, should promptly seek medical attention at nearby hospitals. In addition to Scrub Typhus, cases of Influenza are also emerging in the state. Hospitals have been provided with necessary guidelines to manage these cases as well.
