Sanskrit Speech, Shloka Recitation & Poet’s Meet Organized at PM Shri Govt. Senior Secondary School Kupvi

As part of the Sanskrit Week celebrations, the Department of Language & Culture, District Shimla, organized a Sanskrit Speech, Shloka Recitation Competition, and a Bal Kavi Sammelan at PM Shri Govt. Senior Secondary School, Kupvi, a remote subdivision of Shimla. The event aimed to emphasize the significance of Sanskrit, the second official language of Himachal Pradesh, and encourage youth participation in cultural activities.

Assistant Commissioner (Development), Karnveer, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Students from various local schools participated enthusiastically, showcasing their oratory skills and command over Sanskrit verses.

In the Shloka Recitation (Junior Category), Mannat from Bhagwati Vidya Mandir, Kupvi, secured first place, while Harshita and Diksha from PM Shri GSSS Kupvi bagged second and third positions, respectively. In the Senior Category, Swati (Bhagwati Vidya Mandir, Kupvi) clinched first, while Insha and Srishti (PM Shri GSSS Kupvi) stood second and third.

The Speech Competition (Junior) saw Gunjan, Saanvi, and Aarushi from PM Shri GSSS Kupvi take the top three positions. In the Senior Category, Vanshika and Srishti from PM Shri GSSS Kupvi secured first and second positions, with Tanuja from Govt. High School Chadoli finishing third.

A special Bal Kavi Sammelan (children’s poetry meet) was also organized, where young poets presented compositions in Sanskrit. The jury panel comprised senior Shastri teachers Hardeep Pamta, Suman Lata, and Veena Kumari.

Chief Guest Karnveer, in his address, highlighted Sanskrit as the “mother of all Indian languages” and a bridge to India’s spiritual and cultural roots. He emphasized integrating co-curricular activities for holistic student development and urged students to minimize plastic use for environmental conservation.

In the concluding ceremony, winners were felicitated with mementos, cash prizes, and certificates. The event was attended by acting Principal Sumitra Chauhan, Senior Lecturer Rai Singh Rawat, Devendra Kumar Dev, and Shivam Thakur.
