Shimla, June 2025 — Swaran Public School kickstarted its Safety Week with a powerful and empathetic session led by renowned educator Ms. Kalpana Sharma, former Principal of BSN Shimla and currently with the Krishnamurti Foundation of India. Speaking to students of Grades 9 and 10, Ms. Sharma addressed essential themes of child safety, adolescence, and emotional well-being.
Students engaged in interactive activities focused on differentiating safe and unsafe touch, asserting boundaries, and seeking help through the national child helpline number 1098. She also introduced them to adolescent changes, body positivity, and respect for self and others through resources like *Menstrupedia* and *Gullu*.
Conducted in a co-educational setting, the session fostered a culture of openness and inclusion. In a remarkable move, the Student Council will now lead junior outreach programs and community engagement efforts, extending awareness to younger students and the Tutikandi community.
Principal Ms. Seema Mehta expressed gratitude to Ms. Sharma and appreciated the student-led initiatives promoting safety and empathy. Ms. Sharma continues these sessions in memory of the late Ms. Usha Sharma, the visionary founder of BSN Shimla.
