‘Run for Women’ Event Held in Shimla on International Women’s Day

Shimla, March 8: On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2026, Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), Shimla, in collaboration with Fit India, Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Department of Youth Services & Sports, Himachal Pradesh, organized a “Run for Women” event at the Bishop Cotton School Athletics Stadium.
The event was conducted under the ASMITA (Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action) initiative, a key component of the Khelo India Women’s League, aimed at promoting sports participation and fitness among women and girls.
Competitions in 100m, 200m and 400m races were held across three age categories—Under-13, 13–18 years and 18+ years. A large number of girls and women participated enthusiastically in the event.
Geetanjali Thakur, DSP and Staff Officer, Southern Range, attended as the chief guest and encouraged participants to adopt a healthy lifestyle and actively engage in sports. Among the other dignitaries present were Matthew John, Principal of Bishop Cotton School; Parveen Dharma, Administrative Officer; Gurpreet Singh, Sports Director; and Anurag Verma, District Youth Services & Sports Officer.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Vipin Kumar, Deputy Director, Mera Yuva Bharat, Shimla, who appreciated the support of participants, officials and collaborating institutions.
