Demands Urgent Central Aid After Ground Inspection
Mandi, July 20: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur, accompanied by the Central Inter-Ministerial Team, visited several disaster-affected areas of the Seraj Assembly constituency to assess the extent of damage caused by recent natural calamities. Thakur informed the team that Seraj alone has suffered damages worth over ₹1,000 crore. He emphasized the need for an area-specific rehabilitation plan and in-depth research on the recurring natural disasters in the region.
The joint team toured villages including Bagsyad, Thunag, Deji, Lamba Thach, Pandav Shila, and Janjehli. Jairam Thakur stated that many locations remain inaccessible due to blocked roads and that only temporary restoration of power, water supply, and roads has been possible.
He highlighted that significant damage has also occurred in Nachan, Dharampur, and Karsog constituencies and appealed for robust resettlement measures. He reiterated his plan to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda in Delhi to request substantial financial aid for Himachal Pradesh. He thanked the Central Government for promptly sending the assessment team.
The Central team inspected damaged houses, public infrastructure, and flood-hit markets, with the support of the Mandi district administration and police officials.
