Role of nutrition in physical and well being highlighted

Solan, Dec. 08 – Dr. Parvinder Kaushal, Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni today highlighted the importance of nutrition in the development of school children. He was addressing the students, teachers and representatives of the local panchayats during the one-day sensitization programme and pilot survey carried out by the university at Government School, Jobri in Arki. Dr. Kaushal was also accompanied by the University doctors Dr. Alpana Kaushal and Dr. Nitesh Mahajan who carried out a survey of the nutritional habits of the children. Based on the survey, inputs for improvement in the nutritional status of the students will be suggested by the university.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kaushal said that nutrition plays a big role in the development of school children ensuring their physical and mental wellbeing. He said that it was important that everyone, including the students, teachers, and parents ensure that the nutrition needs of the students are met so that they can play an effective role in the development of the nation. He urged the students to also take part in extra-curricular activities along with excelling in studies. Dr Kaushal also highlighted the importance of Indian moral values and ethics. Discussions were also held with students, teachers and other stakeholders.

The activity was carried out under the plan of the Ludhiana chapter of NAAS in which Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, HP CSK HPKV Palampur, GADVASU, SKUAST-J and SKUAST-K will identify and adopt a primary school and conduct pilot survey to study the nutritional needs of the students in consultations with the stakeholders-head of schools, parents and the panchayat representatives. It is aimed that a scientifically chalked-out outreach programme implemented with unified efforts over a period of three years can bring a transformational change in the status of nutrition and health of school children.
