Respect Public Sentiments, Force is Not the Solution: Jai Ram Thakur

Shimla– In a press statement issued today, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur criticized the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led government, accusing it of disrespecting public sentiment. He stated that the government’s use of force against peaceful protesters is unjust and undemocratic. Thakur expressed his disappointment at the way protesters have been brutally suppressed rather than engaging them in dialogue. He questioned the government’s priorities, asking why it resorts to violence against citizens rather than addressing the issue of illegal constructions responsibly.

Referring to the recent incidents in Sanjauli and Mandi, where peaceful protests were met with force, Thakur said the actions of the government are highly regrettable. He added that the growing unrest across the state is due to the government’s heavy-handed approach. He called on the government to respect the people’s right to peaceful protest and provide assurance of justice instead of resorting to authoritarian tactics.

In addition, Jai Ram Thakur paid tribute to the soldiers martyred in an encounter in Kishtwar, Jammu & Kashmir, including Arvind Singh from Hamirpur. He extended condolences to the bereaved families and praised the soldiers’ supreme sacrifice, stating that the entire nation stands proud of their bravery.
