Shimla, Feb 19 : District Police Shimla has invoked the provisions of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act to place a habitual drug trafficker under preventive detention, reinforcing its zero-tolerance approach against narcotics.

The accused, Narender Kumar alias Nandu, son of Rajinder Singh and resident of Hatkoti, Tehsil Jubbal, District Shimla, has been detained after repeatedly being found involved in illegal trafficking of heroin (chitta). Despite multiple arrests under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, the accused continued his involvement in drug-related activities, posing a serious threat to public safety.

Police records indicate that Narender Kumar alias Nandu has been arrested in four separate NDPS cases between 2023 and 2024. These cases involved the recovery of varying quantities of heroin, including a significant seizure of over 468 grams, clearly establishing him as a habitual offender engaged in illicit drug trafficking.

District Police Shimla stated that the preventive detention has been ordered to disrupt the drug supply network, deter repeat offences, and prevent the accused from continuing illegal activities. The action reflects the police department’s sustained efforts to safeguard youth, curb drug abuse, and maintain public order.

Shimla Police reiterated that stringent legal measures will continue to be taken against individuals involved in narcotics trafficking to ensure a drug-free and safe society.
