Shimla Police Invoke Preventive Custod

Shimla, Feb 18: In a major action against drug trafficking, District Police Shimla have detained a repeat offender under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act. The accused, Ajit Ram of Phagli Road, has been sent to jail for three months under preventive detention due to repeated involvement in chitta trafficking. Police records show he was arrested eight times in different NDPS cases between 2016 and 2024, with recoveries of heroin, smack and charas. Officials said the move aims to curb illegal narcotics networks, prevent repeat offences and strengthen public safety under the department’s zero-tolerance policy against drugs.
