1 min readShimla, November – Acclaimed author S.R. Harnot’s widely discussed story *Aabhi* has been included in the Hindi syllabus for the four-year undergraduate BA Minor program at Kerala University. The story revolves around a bird named Aabhi, which maintains the pristine Saryolsar Lake near Jalori Pass by picking up every leaf or twig that falls into it. Through *Aabhi*, Harnot highlights the menace of forest mafias while promoting environmental protection and cleanliness.
The story is also part of the BA curriculum at Himachal Pradesh University in its English translation, included in Harnot’s anthology *Cats Talk*, published by Cambridge Publishing, London. Translated by Prof. Meenakshi F. Paul, it has been widely performed by a Haryana-based organization. *Aabhi* is also a key subject of MPhil and PhD research on Harnot’s literature.
Previously, Kerala University’s MA students studied Harnot’s *Maa Padhti Hai*, and his story *M.Com* has been part of Kerala’s higher secondary school curriculum for years. The newly published textbook *Galptaru*, edited by Dr. Smita R. Nair, Lt. Dr. Shabana Habib, and Dr. Manju K.N., features *Aabhi* alongside stories by renowned writers such as Chitra Mudgal, Mamta Kalia, Om Prakash Valmiki, and Harishankar Parsai.
