Shimla: Renowned author S.R. Harnot has achieved a significant milestone as his stories have been included in the curriculums of various universities across India. As of July this year, five of his stories have been incorporated into the syllabi of B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. programs.
In the past six months alone, the following stories have been added:
– “Nadi Gayab Hai” at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad, Maharashtra
– “Billiyan Batiyati Hain” at Mumbai University
– “Bhagadevi Ka Chaighar” at Kolkata University
– “Aabhi” at Guru Kashi University, Punjab
Additionally, his story “Maa Padhti Hai” has been included in the NCERT’s mother-centric book “Rishton Ki Khidkiyan.”
Previously, Harnot’s stories were part of the curriculum at several prestigious institutions, including:
– Kerala University
– Central University of Punjab
– Central University of Dharamshala
– Gautam Buddha University, Noida
– Jain University, Bengaluru
– Bengaluru City University
Notably, his acclaimed story “Jeenakathi” was included in the M.A. program at Himachal University last year, while the English translations of “Aabhi” and “Laal Hota Darakht” are taught in B.A. courses. In Kerala, his story is even included in the Plus Two curriculum.
The inclusion of his stories in these universities’ online courses, alongside those of other prominent writers, marks a significant achievement for Harnot and the literary community of Himachal Pradesh.
Harnot is the first author from Himachal Pradesh to have over twenty M.Phil. theses written on his works, with seven Ph.D. dissertations completed and nine more ongoing. This brings the total to sixteen Ph.D. dissertations focused on his literature. His stories and novels are also featured in various research topics across numerous Ph.D. studies.
Despite his literary accomplishments, Harnot has not received major awards from the Himachal Pradesh government, which annually distributes honors like Himachal Gaurav, State, and Shikhar awards to authors. When asked about this, Harnot humbly stated that the inclusion of his stories in national and state university curriculums, along with the extensive academic research on his works, is the highest honor he could receive, all thanks to the recognition from Himachal Pradesh.
