Regular Testing of Drinking Water Sources Must Continue: DC Shimla

Shimla, March 13, 2026: Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap directed officials to ensure continuous testing of drinking water sources in the district during a meeting of the District Water and Sanitation Mission held under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Officials informed that Shimla district has 3,055 water sources, from which 18,985 samples have been collected so far. Field Test Kits have been distributed in 2,536 villages, though only 19 percent of the testing target has been achieved so far.
Under Jal Jeevan Mission, the district has 264 schemes, of which 203 have been physically completed and 114 financially completed, while work is ongoing on 61 projects and 89 remain financially open. Under the Har Ghar Jal initiative, 4 out of 13 blocks, 234 out of 412 panchayats, and 1,621 out of 2,536 villages have been certified.
The DC also noted that the district has achieved 100 percent Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) coverage, with 1,72,266 household tap connections installed. He directed the department to submit detailed reports for ongoing large projects nearing completion so that additional budget can be allocated if required.
