Shimla June 29: The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall across Kangra, Mandi, Solan, and Sirmaur districts in Himachal Pradesh. Authorities have urged residents to steer clear of rivers and streams. In Shimla, the road to Chamiyana Hospital is blocked by a landslide, and rockfall has occurred in Bhattakufar. Meanwhile, heavy rains triggered a landslide in Bathwell area, Sanjauli ward, burying a house—trapping a mother and daughter inside. Municipal officials and rescue teams, including the Mayor and councillors, are on-site.
State Minister Jagat Singh Negi confirmed that sudden floods and heavy rains have also impacted Kullu. In Kangra district (Dharamshala), nine workers were caught in flash floods at a power project; eight are missing and six bodies recovered so far. Infrastructure services—roads, drinking water, and power lines—have been disrupted. Recovery efforts for road connectivity and utilities are underway. A high-level review meeting is scheduled for Monday involving Revenue, Disaster Management, PWD, Jal Shakti, and Power departments. All district-level Disaster Management Units are on high alert, including sub-divisional revenue, police, SDRF, and NDRF teams.
