Electric Vehicles Subsidized at 50%, Assuring Monthly Income of ₹50,000 Through Government Services
In its two-year tenure, the Himachal Pradesh government has launched various initiatives to tackle unemployment, with the Rajiv Gandhi Self-Employment Startup Scheme emerging as a game-changer. This program has empowered unemployed youth in Chamba district by providing them with sustainable employment opportunities and financial stability.
Under the scheme, eight beneficiaries from Chamba, including Praveen Kumar from Masroond, Chandesh Kumar from Kumharka, Jagtar Singh from Lahri, and others, availed 50% subsidy to purchase electric taxis. These e-taxis have been attached to government departments, ensuring each beneficiary a monthly income of ₹50,000.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude, highlighting that the scheme has not only reduced their operational costs, compared to traditional petrol-run taxis, but also provided a steady and reliable income source. They emphasized the simplicity and environmental benefits of operating e-vehicles, which have brought prosperity and independence to their lives.
Chamba Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal revealed that the government is phasing out old vehicles in favor of e-vehicles in government departments, promoting a pollution-free environment while creating self-employment opportunities. District Employment Officer Arvind Chauhan explained that the scheme offers 50% subsidy, 40% bank loans at 7.9% interest, and requires only 10% beneficiary contribution. Vehicles are attached to government offices for 4-5 years, ensuring steady income for beneficiaries.
With 19 applications received in Chamba, eight e-vehicles have already been deployed, and the remaining applicants are in the final stages of document verification. Interested individuals can seek further information from the District Employment Office in Chamba.
