Rain Fury Wreaks Havoc in Himachal, 135 Dead

Himachal Pradesh continues to reel under the impact of incessant rainfall, triggering landslides, cloudbursts, and flash floods that have severely disrupted normal life. According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) report dated July 22, as many as 432 roads remain blocked, 534 power transformers are non-functional, and 197 drinking water schemes have been badly affected across the state.
Mandi and Kangra districts have reported the highest number of casualties. Of the 135 reported deaths, 76 were caused by natural disasters such as landslides and flash floods, while 59 occurred due to road accidents. Widespread damage has been reported in Mandi, Kangra, Kullu, Chamba, Shimla, and Solan.
More than 540 houses have completely collapsed, and losses amount to ₹1,247 crore so far. Over five weeks, the state has recorded 25 landslides, 40 flash floods, and 23 cloudbursts. Livestock losses include 1,296 animals and 21,500 poultry.
Essential services remain disrupted, with major damage to roads, bridges, and rural infrastructure. Relief operations are ongoing, and authorities urge citizens to remain alert and avoid vulnerable areas.
