1 min readShimla, June 28 – Dr. Abhishek Jain, Secretary PWD, chaired a meeting with officials from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to review the progress of various road projects and transport-related services in Himachal Pradesh. Emphasizing the importance of highways as the backbone of the hilly state, Dr. Jain called for enhanced services at toll plazas.
Dr. Jain highlighted the need for NHAI to provide better amenities at toll plazas, including medical aid posts, traffic aid posts, ambulances, cranes, and clean toilets. He also insisted on offering primary health check-ups and treatment services for commuters. Additionally, he mandated that toll plaza workers adhere to a dress code and wear nameplates while on duty.
To ensure compliance, Dr. Jain directed NHAI officials to conduct regular inspections at toll plazas and submit timely reports to the State Government. He stressed the importance of using scientific methods for hill and mountain cutting to construct four-lane roads, given Himachal’s susceptibility to landslides and other disasters. Special attention should be given to erecting retaining walls, crash barriers, and installing night reflectors for road safety.
Dr. Jain also underscored the importance of timely completion of four-lane road projects to save time and money for local commuters and tourists. He emphasized the need for effective traffic management at toll plazas and instructed contractors to ensure 24-hour availability of ambulances, cranes, and patrol teams at construction sites to handle emergencies efficiently.
