1 min readShimla, June 26: Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh has directed the officials of the Public Works Department (PWD) to prioritize the completion of projects where 75 percent of the work is already done. This directive was issued during a review meeting focused on the construction works of hospitals, primary health centres (PHCs), and community health centres (CHCs) under the health and family welfare department.
Singh emphasized the need to prepare and prioritize a list of various projects in each Assembly constituency. He stressed that special efforts must be made to complete these projects within the stipulated time frame to ensure timely delivery and efficient use of resources.
The Minister stated that the government would not award new construction contracts to contractors who have previously failed to complete at least two satisfactory works, similar to the guidelines of the Pradhan Mantri Grameen Sadak Yojana. He also highlighted the importance of commencing construction work only when there is adequate budget provision, aiming to prevent cost escalations and ensure financial efficiency.
In a media interaction later, Singh assured that the PWD is fully prepared for the upcoming monsoon season. A total of 206 JCBs, 110 bulldozers, and 28 robo machines have been deployed across various locations in the state to facilitate swift rescue and relief operations during emergencies. Additionally, arrangements have been made for 17 bailey bridges and a workforce of 13,000 to be on standby for any urgent situations.
