Shimla, 25 June 2025:
A two-day workshop on “Psychosocial Care During Disasters” organized by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) concluded today at Bachat Bhawan, Shimla. Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap, who attended as the chief guest, emphasized the importance of emotional and mental support during disasters, stating that “psychosocial care is a vital component of rescue operations.”
He highlighted the painful lessons from the Samzej tragedy last year and outlined the administration’s proactive steps for disaster preparedness, including the appointment of nodal officers across the district. He warned that any negligence by nodal officers during crises would result in strict action.
The workshop featured a short play based on the Samzej tragedy, showcasing the mental health support extended during the disaster. Various sessions covered the impact of disasters on children, women, and the elderly, along with gender-sensitive disaster management practices and psychological techniques for self-care.
Representatives from multiple departments and institutions participated, including officials from RDD, PWD, HP SDRF, fire services, education, and health departments. Certificates were distributed to all participants at the end of the session.
