Protest by Independents: Accept Resignations

2 min read

Shimla, Himachal Pradesh: Independent MLA Hoshiyar Singh staged a protest, demanding the approval of resignation letters.

Singh stated, “On the 22nd, all three independent MLAs submitted their resignations to the Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the 23rd. Despite repeated requests, the Speaker has not approved our resignations.”

He further added, “The Speaker issued a notice stating that our resignations were submitted under pressure. This is entirely false. We resigned voluntarily, without any coercion or influence from any political party. If the Speaker issues such a notice, it would be a threat to democracy.”

K.L. Thakur questioned, “As independent candidates, how can we be asked to explain? If an independent candidate wins, there is no need for an explanation. In the 14 months of Congress rule, there has been no development in Himachal Pradesh. All the work done was initiated by the previous BJP government.”

Aashish Sharma criticized the Congress government, saying, “Our dignity and respect have been tarnished in the past 14 months of Congress rule. The humiliation is not just mine but also that of my people. While the Congress party continued to pay its MLAs, no work was done for us independent MLAs. We have been attempting to meet the Chief Minister for the past 8 months, but he has not given us an audience even once.”

He continued, “After enduring such humiliation for 14 months, all independent MLAs have decided to resign. We sit on the chair given by the people and if we cannot serve them, we have no right to sit on it. The Congress government is strangling democracy by harassing the people of our constituencies.”

This protest by independent MLAs highlights their dissatisfaction with the current political scenario in Himachal Pradesh, demanding immediate action on their resignations.
