Shimla:
The Shimla district administration has sent a formal proposal to the Himachal Pradesh Government for the creation of a new tehsil at Kasumpti. This information was shared by Deputy Commissioner Shimla, Anupam Kashyap, who said that the formation of a new tehsil in Kasumpti has become essential.
He stated that at present, the Kasumpti area is being administered under Shimla Rural Tehsil, which covers a vast geographical region. Under the proposed plan, apart from the existing Patwar Circle, four new Patwar Circles and two Field Kanungo Circles will be created.
The Deputy Commissioner explained that Shimla Rural Tehsil currently has 32 Patwar Circles, covering a large area that includes substantial portions of Kasumpti, Shimla Rural, and Shimla Urban Assembly constituencies. Due to the dense population around Shimla city and the increasing number of revenue cases, court matters, and field verifications, residents and officials face significant administrative difficulties.
According to the proposal, the new Kasumpti Tehsil will comprise 17 Patwar Circles and 4 Field Kanungo Circles, covering a total area of 17,032.29 hectares. It will include 86,983 Khasra numbers and 12,080 Khatauni numbers, catering to a population of approximately 91,924 people.
Anupam Kashyap further informed that **four new Patwar Circles—Chamiyana, Rajhana, Dummi, and Janol—**have been proposed. Additionally, two Field Kanungo Circles are proposed at Kasumpti/Chamiyana and Shoghi.
He added that the proposed Kasumpti Tehsil will bring 83 government schools, 21 post offices, 27 bank branches, and several other government offices under its administrative jurisdiction, which will significantly improve service delivery and administrative efficiency for the local population.
