Albendazole will be given to children in schools and Anganwadi centers on August 21
Deputy Commissioner Shimla Anupam Kashyap said that on August 21, 2025, children from 1 to 19 years will be given a dose of Albendazole in all the schools and Anganwadi centers of the district. Along with this, Vitamin-A will also be made available to children from 1 to 5 years. He said that the top priority of the state government and the district administration is the proper nutrition and health of children, for which all the departments will have to work in mutual coordination.
The Deputy Commissioner was chairing a meeting held here today regarding the successful organization of National De-worming Day and the first phase of Vitamin-A. Officers of the concerned departments including Health, Education and Women and Child Development Department were present in the meeting.
The Deputy Commissioner informed that children in the age group of 1 to 5 years will be given Albendazole and Vitamin-A supplements in Anganwadi centres, Primary Health Centres and Play Schools, while children in the age group of 5 to 19 years will be given Albendazole in schools. Its objective is to improve the nutritional level of children and prevent anaemia.
The Deputy Commissioner informed that through this campaign, a target has been set to cover a total of 2,22,687 children in 2105 government and 450 private schools and 2154 Anganwadi centres of Shimla district. Training has been completed for the effective implementation of the programme and publicity material has also been distributed for public awareness.
He clarified that children in the age group of 1–2 years will first be given 2 ml of Vitamin-A syrup and after a gap of 5 minutes half a tablet of Albendazole will be given. Similarly, children in the age group of 2–5 years will be given 2 ml of Vitamin-A and one full tablet of Albendazole. Children above 5 years of age will be given one tablet of Albendazole.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the officials to ensure the availability of essential medicines and logistics on time and to give priority to awareness activities. He said that this campaign is an important initiative towards strengthening the health of children.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Shimla Divyanshu Singhal, District Program Officer Health Department Dr. Vandana, District Program Officer Women and Child Development Department Mamta Paul, Dr. Isha Thakur and other officers were also present in the meeting.
