Hamirpur Deputy Commissioner Amarjeet Singh has instructed officials from the Women and Child Development Department, District Child Protection Unit, District Child Welfare Committee, and other concerned departments to intensify awareness campaigns for the Foster Care Scheme and the Chief Minister’s Sukh Ashray Scheme under Mission Vatsalya. The initiative aims to ensure that no eligible and needy child or youth in the district is deprived of benefits.
Chairing a district-level Sponsorship and Foster Care Approval Committee meeting, the DC approved 12 new cases under the Foster Care Scheme. He stated that orphaned children, children of widows, abandoned or divorced women, those with parents suffering from terminal illnesses, or whose parents are unable to care for them due to financial constraints, will receive ₹4,000 per month under the scheme until they turn 18. Currently, 1,349 children in Hamirpur are benefiting from the scheme, and with the inclusion of 12 more, the total number will reach 1,361. Similarly, youth aged 18-27 years are being provided ₹4,000 monthly under the Chief Minister’s Sukh Ashray Scheme.
The DC emphasized the need for grassroots promotion of these schemes and urged officials to also utilize the CM Sukh Shiksha Yojana for needy children. He requested newly appointed members of the District Child Welfare Committee to bring any cases of needy children to the approval committee’s attention.
The meeting also discussed other child welfare issues, with District Child Protection Officer Tilak Raj Acharya presenting details of the new foster care cases. The newly appointed chairman of the District Child Welfare Committee, Manish Rana, along with members Ashwani Kumar, Siddharth Kaushal, Sangeeta, and Meena, were also present.
