Poor Road Tarring in Himachal Will Lead to Blacklisting of Contractors: PWD Minister

The Himachal Pradesh government has issued strict directives to ensure quality in road tarring work across the state. Contractors failing to meet the quality standards will be blacklisted, and engineers—including junior and executive engineers—must remain present on-site during the tarring process. Any negligence will lead to disciplinary action.
This year, the government has set a target to complete tarring of 2,000 km of roads by August. Tarring work began on March 20, with tenders already issued. The Public Works Department (PWD) is prioritizing road repairs and tarring in Kullu, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Una, Solan, Shimla, and Chamba.
PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh emphasized that negligence will not be tolerated and accountability has been fixed for both contractors and officials. In 2023, action was taken against 85 contractors for substandard work.
