Shimla, May 19, 2025 – The Himachal Pradesh government, which claims to be committed to systemic reforms, finds itself in an embarrassing spot as Education Minister Rohit Thakur’s own village school has recorded a shocking 100% failure rate in the Class 10 board exams.

The Government Senior Secondary School in Pauta (Dhar) village of Kotkhai Jubbal, the Education Minister’s native place, saw all six of its Class 10 students fail. What’s more concerning is that the school has been without a mathematics teacher for the past two years, as the appointed teacher has been on study leave — a vacancy that remained unaddressed under the Minister’s watch.

In another blow, the Government Senior Secondary School Jubbal, which the minister had personally adopted, saw only 10 out of 20 students pass. This school, named after the minister’s father Ram Lal Thakur, was expected to set a benchmark but is now in the spotlight for the wrong reasons.

Similarly, the Girls Senior Secondary School in Jubbal reported 8 failures out of 19 students in Class 10. Principal Sunil of the Pauta Dhar school confirmed that students received no formal instruction in mathematics for two years, severely affecting their performance.

The issue has raised serious concerns about accountability, especially when the Education Minister’s own adopted and ancestral schools are showing such poor outcomes.
