2 min read

Shimla, March 2: Himachal Pradesh is witnessing escalating political turmoil that shows no signs of abating. In a surprising turn of events, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu left a cabinet meeting yesterday evening to meet with all ministers in the Vidhan Sabha. This unscheduled gathering included a discussion with the Speaker, Kuldeep Singh Pathania. While the Chief Minister emphasized that the meeting was a courteous exchange, political topics were also reportedly addressed.

During the interaction, Chief Minister Sukhu asserted that everything is in order within the government, and the Congress-led government has been elected by the people for a full five-year term. He expressed confidence that the government will complete its term, dismissing any aspirations of the BJP’s “Mission Lotus.” He reminded Jairam Thakur that the BJP lacks a majority and discouraged Jairam Thakur from dreaming of Mission Lotus success. Referring to expelled rebel Congress MLAs as “black snakes,” Sukhu stated that those who betrayed the Congress symbol during elections are now imprisoned in Haryana. He suggested that the public would not forgive them.

On the other hand, Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania, regarding the meeting, that it was a polite exchange of views without any specific deliberations. Responding to questions about the reinstatement of expelled rebel Congress MLAs, he mentioned that his decision cannot be revoked. However, he acknowledged that the High Court and Supreme Court could be approached for appeals. The legal arguments of the government and rebel MLAs’ lawyers were considered before taking any action.

The political climate in Himachal Pradesh remains fluid, with these unexpected developments creating uncertainties about the future course of events.
