Tap Water Coverage Rises from 17% to 81% in Just Six Years
Shimla, August 14, 2025 – BJP State Spokesperson Chetan Bragta today hailed the historic success of the *Jal Jeevan Mission*, launched on August 14, 2019, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said the mission has brought a revolutionary change in rural India within just six years.
In 2019, only 17% of rural households had access to tap water. Today, that number has surged nearly fivefold to about 81%, meaning crores of rural families are now connected to clean drinking water. Back in 2019, 3.2 crore rural homes received tap water, whereas the figure has now exceeded 15.7 crore.
Bragta emphasized that the mission has not only strengthened basic infrastructure but also improved health in rural areas, reduced the physical burden on women, enhanced children’s education, and created lakhs of new job opportunities. Women no longer have to spend hours fetching water, allowing them to devote more time to their families and livelihoods.
He added that the Jal Jeevan Mission is a story of dignity, inclusion, and grassroots empowerment, made possible by PM Modi’s commitment, efficiency, and dedication to public service. The dream of ‘Har Ghar Jal’ has now become a reality, ensuring safe drinking water while energizing health, sanitation, and economic growth in rural India.
