Plastic Ban Violations Mar Shimla Winter Carnival

The Shimla Winter Carnival at The Ridge has come under scrutiny for alleged violations of Himachal Pradesh’s plastic ban. Stalls at the event have reportedly been using plastic materials from outside the state to serve food, despite a complete ban on such materials.

Additionally, numerous flex banners have been displayed at The Ridge and The Mall, exceeding permissible thickness limits. The HP High Court, in its March 2024 order, directed the removal of such banners statewide. Despite this, the banners remain, raising questions about regulatory oversight.

Environmental activists have urged the State Pollution Control Board to inspect the sites, enforce compliance, and take strict action against violators. The board is yet to respond to these concerns.
