Mandi, July 01 : A devastating flash flood in the Saraj region of Mandi district on the last night completely destroyed the 16 MW Patikri Power Project. The deluge swept through the dam and powerhouse infrastructure, causing damage worth billions. Fortunately, 12 staff members on night duty managed to escape in time, preventing any casualties. Project in-charge Shyam Lal confirmed that the dam, powerhouse, electric panels, and major equipment were washed away. The flood also damaged a 4 km-long water tunnel and 500-meter steel penstock. Notably, the project had suffered ₹25 crore damage in 2023 and had undergone repairs, including the construction of a 6-meter high protective wall, which was breached this time. Officials state that restarting the project would require a complete rebuild from scratch.
