Orientation Programme of CHRD Held at HPNLU Shimla

The Centre for Human Rights and Disability Studies (CHRD) of Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, successfully conducted its Orientation Programme on September 9, 2025, under the visionary leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor. The programme, designed to sensitize and inspire first-year students, featured interactive sessions, reflective activities, and the screening of the Oscar-winning short film The Silent Child.
The event began with welcoming remarks by Samia, Co-Convenor of CHRD, followed by a detailed presentation on the Centre’s vision, mission, and past initiatives. To engage students in experiential learning, Ashpinder, Convenor of CHRD, led the Dominant Hand Game, highlighting challenges faced by persons with disabilities.
A key highlight was the screening of The Silent Child, thoughtfully introduced by a Centre member, which shed light on communication barriers and inclusive education. This was followed by the Auction Game, conducted by Ms. Samia, encouraging critical thinking on rights and representation. The session concluded with an energetic Meet the Team interaction led by Ashpinder, introducing freshers to the CHRD core team.
The programme was graced by Dr. Sachin Sharma, Associate Professor of Law & Faculty Director of CHRD; Dr. Akshita Dhiman, Assistant Professor of Psychology; and Mr. Digvijay Singh, Assistant Professor of Law, who shared valuable insights on human rights education and the evolving field of disability studies.
Students participated actively in discussions and activities, voicing their reflections on inclusivity and social justice. Their enthusiasm underscored the importance of student-driven initiatives in shaping empathetic and socially responsible professionals.
The Orientation concluded with an open call for students to join CHRD’s journey of advocacy, research, and social impact, reaffirming its commitment to promoting dignity, equality, and inclusion as actionable human rights.
