Opposition’s One Year in Parliament ‘Spectacle and Shame for Democracy’: Kangana Ranaut

Shimla, December 10:
BJP MP Kangana Ranaut launched a sharp attack on the Opposition during a discussion on electoral reforms in the Lok Sabha, calling their conduct over the past year “chaotic, disruptive, and deeply shameful for democracy.” Speaking on Tuesday, she said her first year as a newly elected MP had been “mentally traumatic” due to the Opposition’s daily disruptions.
Ranaut alleged that the Opposition repeatedly reduced Parliament to a spectacle with sloganeering, protests in the Well, intimidation, and physical obstruction. “We come here to represent the people and to learn, but the Opposition has trampled every parliamentary norm,” she said.
Targeting Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, she said his recent speech lacked facts, direction, and substance. She criticised him for showing the image of an international woman in Parliament without evidence or context, calling it a violation of her personal rights. “As a woman MP, I apologise to her on behalf of the entire House,” she stated.
Ranaut accused the Congress of hypocrisy on women’s respect, contrasting it with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives such as Beti Bachao–Beti Padhao, Ujjwala Yojana, scholarships, sanitation drives, and women-led self-reliance programmes. “The Prime Minister does not hack EVMs—he wins people’s hearts,” she remarked.
Recalling the Indira Gandhi vs Raj Narain verdict, Ranaut said the Congress should be the last to comment on electoral integrity, alleging that the “largest election fraud” occurred during the ballot-paper era. She further cited Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR), which removed over 60 lakh fake or invalid voters, to argue that electoral purity strengthens democracy.
Pitching strongly for One Nation–One Election, she said synchronised elections would save over ₹10,000 crore and reduce administrative and logistical strain on the country. “A unified election cycle will make democracy a true celebration,” she added.
Ranaut concluded by asserting that the BJP stands firmly for democratic reforms, transparency, and constitutional values, while accusing the Opposition of promoting confusion and weakening institutions.
