Only Licensed Traders Allowed to Sell Firecrackers in Shimla District

Shimla, October 4, 2025 – Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap has directed that only licensed traders will be permitted to sell firecrackers in the district during the Diwali season. In a video conference with all SDMs, he instructed them to conduct surprise inspections in markets and ensure strict compliance with the Explosives Act, 1884, and Rules, 2008. Currently, only two licensed vendors are authorized in Shimla.

He cautioned that unauthorized sale, storage, or distribution of firecrackers will invite strict action, including seizure of stock, cancellation of trade licenses, and even criminal cases. Citizens have been advised to purchase fireworks only from authorized sellers.

The DC also stressed vigilance against adulteration in milk, sweets, and food products during the festive season. Food and Civil Supplies Department teams will conduct inspections, check labeling, and collect samples. Hospitals have been asked to ensure adequate medicines to deal with food poisoning cases.

Further, the administration warned against storing more than 100 kg of LPG cylinders in shops and directed SDMs to take action against illegal gas supply. Block Development Officers were instructed to circulate all administrative orders up to the panchayat level for effective implementation.
