– Deputy Commissioner’s Review Meeting on Numberdars’ Duties
Shimla, February 4 – A review meeting of the duties of numberdars (village headmen) in the district was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap.
During the meeting, Kashyap directed that all numberdars must report any drug-related activities in their jurisdiction to the respective police stations every 15 days. The police will take immediate action based on their reports as part of the administration’s efforts to make Shimla district drug-free.
He further emphasized expediting revenue-related matters and ensuring that disaster-related incidents are reported promptly to senior revenue officials. Numberdars will also coordinate rescue operations during emergencies.
The Deputy Commissioner highlighted the crucial role of numberdars in maintaining land ownership records and ensuring there are no delays in revenue-related tasks. The government is prioritizing the swift resolution of pending revenue cases, and numberdars will play a key role in implementing government directives efficiently. Currently, 405 numberdars are actively serving in the district.
Additionally, numberdars are responsible for collecting rent and other revenue from common land, ensuring proper record-keeping, and reporting any illegal encroachments on government or barren land. They must also notify tehsildars about the deaths of pensioners, remarriage of family pension recipients, and the prolonged absence (over a year) of any designated land revenue payers.
Furthermore, numberdars will be required to report damages to government properties, monitor illegal land occupations, assist in crop inspections, and provide local intelligence to government officials as needed. They will also report any outbreaks of livestock diseases to patwaris and notify authorities about the deaths of landowners.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Verma, Additional District Magistrate (Protocol) Jyoti Rana, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Rural) Kavita Thakur, District Revenue Officer Sanjeet Sharma, and other officials.
