NSS Volunteers Lead Cleanliness Drive at APG Shimla University
2 min readShimla, October 2 – In honor of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the NSS unit of APG Shimla University conducted a campus-wide Cleanliness Drive, led by NSS Officer Dr. Pyar Singh Thakur, Assistant Dean Student Welfare Acharya Atul Dubey, and Dean Student Welfare Dr. Neelam Sharma. NSS volunteers actively cleaned the campus surroundings, collecting waste materials such as polythene, gutkha wrappers, glass bottles, and cutting unnecessary bushes along the roads.
The drive was flagged off by Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.S. Chauhan, who emphasized, “Cleanliness creates a clean environment and knowledge thrives in such spaces. It is our duty to participate in Swachhata Abhiyan with enthusiasm.” Chancellor Engineer Suman Vikrant supported the campaign, stating that cleanliness is essential for a healthy society, encouraging everyone to take part in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Pro-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ramesh Chauhan further echoed these sentiments, highlighting Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of a clean India and the importance of cleanliness in preventing diseases. Registrar Dr. Ankit Thakur emphasized that maintaining cleanliness is a shared responsibility, with NSS volunteers raising slogans like “Be Clean, Be Healthy, Keep Clean Shimla, Keep Clean Himachal, and Keep Clean India.”
NSS Program Officer Dr. Pyar Singh Thakur explained that cleanliness is a collective responsibility, stressing the importance of public involvement to achieve a truly clean nation. Dean Student Welfare Dr. Neelam Sharma reinforced the need for continuous cleanliness drives, urging everyone to support the government in its efforts.
The event was attended by faculty members, administrative officers, and various department heads, including Prof. Dr. Anand Mohan Sharma, Monika Baltoo, and Dr. Maninder Kaur.
