Northern Region Workshop on Wetland Conservation Begins in Shimla

Shimla, October 29 — The H.P. Council for Science, Technology & Environment (HIMCOSTE), in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Government of India, is organizing a two-day workshop titled “Northern Region Sahbhagita for Conservation and Wise Use of Wetlands” from October 30 to 31, 2025, at Hotel Holiday Home, Shimla.

Representatives from nine States and Union Territories — Punjab, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Chandigarh, Haryana, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh — along with knowledge partners and subject experts, are participating in the event.

Dr. Suresh Chand Attri, Joint Member Secretary, HIMCOSTE, said that the workshop aims to promote collaborative learning and innovative strategies for better management of wetlands across the country. Technical experts, Wetland Managers, Wetland Mitras, and private sector organizations will engage in presentations, discussions and knowledge sharing on India’s journey in wetland conservation.

He added that the platform will strengthen cooperation among the States/UTs, MoEF&CC and other stakeholders to ensure sustainable protection and wise use of wetland ecosystems, which play a critical role in biodiversity conservation, climate regulation and livelihood support.
