The government has implemented a “No Work, No Pay” rule for district council cadre employees who have been on strike for the past 11 days. Until these employees return to work, they will not receive their salaries. The government had issued notices to the striking employees through the respective Additional District Magistrates (ADMs) to return to work, but despite this, the employees did not resume their duties. As a result, the government has decided to take strict action. The Director of the Panchayati Raj Department, Rugved Milind Thakur, has confirmed the implementation of the “No Work, No Pay” policy for the striking district council cadre employees.

Employees from the district council cadre are protesting for the merger of their services into the Panchayati Raj Department. This strike has affected development work at the panchayat level in the 88 development blocks of the state, where approximately 4,700 employees provide services. Rajesh Thakur, the President of the District Council Cadre Employees’ Organization, has stated that they have been providing services for a long time, but the government is not willing to recognize them as regular employees. They demand the merger of their cadre into the Panchayati Raj Department so that they can receive the same benefits as other government employees. Until their demands are met, they will not return to work.
