Neglected Facilities in Tribal Areas Demand Urgent Attention: Pratibha Singh
2 min readShimla, November 27: Pratibha Singh, Pradesh Congress President and Member of Parliament, emphasized the urgent need for expanding essential facilities in the tribal regions of Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti during a week-long tour. She urged the state government to promptly fill vacant positions in these areas and ensure the availability of necessary supplies before the onset of heavy snowfall.
After her extensive tour of Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti, Pratibha Singh highlighted the shortage of specialized doctors in these regions, revealing the challenges faced by the local population. She also pointed out the vacancy of teaching positions in several schools, stressing the importance of addressing the issue to maintain educational standards.
Singh, underlining the Congress government’s historical commitment to the development of tribal areas, referred to the initiatives undertaken by former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. While acknowledging past efforts, she emphasized the necessity of executing these plans effectively for the well-being of the residents.
Residents in these regions face severe challenges due to heavy snowfall and extreme cold conditions, making their lives exceptionally difficult. Pratibha Singh applauded the decision of the state government to subsidize firewood for heating, recognizing the significance of this move in enhancing the quality of life for the people in tribal areas. She stressed that there should be no compromise on the facilities available to the residents.
Furthermore, Pratibha Singh raised concerns about the involvement of local laborers in road construction by the Border Roads Organization (BRO). She assured local laborers that she would engage in discussions with high-ranking officials of the BRO to address their grievances and ensure that local workers continue to play a vital role in road construction projects.
The Congress leader commended the state government’s decision to provide subsidies on timber for fuel in tribal areas, emphasizing that the comfort and convenience of residents should not be compromised. She urged the government to refrain from any cuts in facilities for the people in these regions.
Pratibha Singh concluded her statements by assuring local laborers that she would communicate with senior officials of the Border Roads Organization to prevent any displacement of local workers. She reiterated her commitment to addressing the concerns of tribal areas and ensuring their holistic development.
