Neglected Civic Woes Surround Bentony Castle

The road leading to Kali Bari Temple, one of the busiest routes in Shimla, showcases a juxtaposition of historical significance and civic neglect. Bentony Castle, which has transformed into a museum and light show attraction, appears to be suffering from a lack of attention, impacting the surrounding area.
A prominent issue drawing concern is the wastage of water right outside the gate of Bentony Castle. For the past two weeks, water has been continuously flowing, creating not just a puddle but a wasteful stream. Despite the apparent concern for conservation and responsible resource use, this site of neglect has raised questions about civic responsibility.
Hari Chauhan, the museum curator, expressed his concerns over the ongoing issue. Chauhan revealed, “I have informed the Municipal Corporation (MC) Shimla about the water leakage, and they assured me they would take care of it. Since it’s a meter-related issue, we cannot address it ourselves to avoid any complications.”
The continuous flow of water raises environmental concerns, as water scarcity is a pressing issue in many regions. Additionally, it reflects a lack of timely intervention and maintenance by the civic authorities.
Residents and visitors alike have expressed their disappointment, noting that such negligence tarnishes the otherwise vibrant appeal of the area. The Bentony Castle, serving as a museum and hosting light shows, stands as a symbol of Shimla’s cultural heritage. However, the adjacent civic issues seem to overshadow its significance.
