“Under APMC Act, Himachal Pradesh Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) Suggests Apple Purchase Based on Weight in Other States’ Markets”

“The Himachal Pradesh government should also initiate apple purchase based on weight in the markets of other states under the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) Act. Some markets in Chandigarh and Delhi have already begun purchasing apples based on kilogram, and if this law is not implemented in other states, the state government will approach the court. This statement was made by Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi. He stated that the effective sale of apples based on weight has been implemented in the state’s markets.”

“With the implementation of this system, apple growers are now receiving record rates for their apples based on weight. Even after August 15, apples are selling for up to INR 150 per kilogram. In favor of the apple growers, the government has established committees of sub-divisional magistrates to strictly enforce the system of selling apples based on kilogram, ensuring that those who do not comply with the law face consequences. Though some irregular practices were observed at the beginning of the season, the government’s stern approach has now ensured that apples are being sold based on kilogram in every market of the state.”

“In the coming days, the government will not step back from taking legal action against those who try to manipulate the system. Four traders have migrated from the state and started operations in the Panchkula market of Haryana, including three from the Bhathakufar market in Shimla and one from the Parala market in Thiyog. These traders stated that due to the inconvenience caused by the implementation of new laws in the state, they are compelled to conduct business outside the state.”
