Necessary Steps Taken for Air Safety at Shimla Airport: DC Anupam Kashyap

Shimla, April 25 – A meeting of the Shimla Airport Environment Management Committee was held today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap. Emphasizing the critical importance of aviation safety, he urged all departmental officials to work in coordination with the Airport Authority to mitigate risks.
The meeting focused on threats posed by birds and wildlife near the Shimla airport, which could impact aircraft takeoff and landing. Strategies were formulated to address these challenges. The DC directed all concerned departments to take time-bound measures to ensure safety.
The Public Works Department was instructed to improve and widen the road leading to the airport to enhance commuter convenience. Additionally, the Shimla Municipal Corporation will deploy waste collection vehicles twice a week to keep the area clean and avoid attracting wildlife.
The Airport Authority requested installation of cages to prevent wildlife intrusion near the runway, which the DC assured would be addressed in coordination with forest officials. Various other aspects of airport security were also discussed in detail.
The meeting was attended by ADC (Protocol) Jyoti Rana, SDM Shimla (Rural) Manjeet Sharma, Airport Director Dhanpal, and other committee members.
