National Voters’ Day to Be Observed at Sub-Division Level & All Polling Stations: DC

A review meeting regarding the preparations for the 16th National Voters’ Day was held today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Anupam Kashyap. The event will be celebrated on January 25, 2026.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that the state-level function of National Voters’ Day 2026 will be held at the historic Gaiety Theatre, Shimla, and will be presided over by the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shiv Pratap Shukla. On the occasion, the Governor will also release a coffee table book prepared by the Election Department. He said the annual celebration aims to create awareness among new voters and further strengthen democratic values. To ensure wider participation, National Voters’ Day will also be celebrated at the sub-division level and at all polling stations across the district.

He said that during the main function, EPIC cards will be distributed by the chief guest to six newly registered young voters, including two each from 62-Kasumpti, 63-Shimla and 64-Shimla Rural constituencies. In addition, a senior citizen voter, a differently-abled voter, and a transgender voter will be honoured. Directions were issued to make proper arrangements for the transportation of senior citizens and differently-abled voters to and from the venue.

The District Election Officer further informed that three District Election Officers, six Electoral Registration Officers, three Best Electoral Literacy Club Nodal Officers, and three State Icons will also be honoured for their outstanding contributions.

To promote voter awareness, cultural performances including a Himachali dance and a skit will be staged during the event. A photo exhibition depicting various stages of the electoral process will also be organised to educate the public.
