National Science Day 2025 celebrated

Solan Mar 01 :The Department of Basic Sciences, Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni celebrated National Science Day 2025 with several keynote lectures and competitions.The event was graced by Dr. C. L. Thakur, Dean, College of Forestry while CS Talwar, former IAS officer (Punjab Government), Dr. K. K. Raina, former Dean, Student Welfare of the university and Vishal Jain who elaborated upon the theme of National Science Day 2025.
In the keynote address on ‘Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science and Innovation for Viksit Bharat’ Talwar encouraged the students to explore the world of science, honour the contributions of great Indian scientists, and promote a spirit of inquiry and innovation. Other speakers highlighted the great heritage of ancient Indian culture that complements and promotes scientific innovations and discoveries. Dr CL Thakur applauded the efforts and contributions of our ancient sages who were great proponents of scientific temperament and spiritual inquiry.
As part of the celebrations, various competitions were organized to specially engage students in scientific learning and innovation. A total of 96 undergraduate and postgraduate students including 50 nominated students actively participated in quiz and poster-making competitions.
In the quiz competition, teams named after renowned Indian scientists—Vikram’s Voyagers, Raman’s Rays, and Kalam’s Dreamers—secured the first, second, and third prizes, respectively. In the poster-making competition, Jigyasa Dhiman, Kritika and Vanshika from BSc (Hons) Forestry won the first prize, second place and third prize respectively. The chief guest distributed the certificates to the participants.
The celebrations concluded with a word of encouragement to the audience by Professor and Head, Basic Sciences, Dr R K Gupta and vote of thanks delivered by Programme Coordinator Prof. Ashu Chandel, acknowledging the efforts of faculty members, students, and organizers who contributed to the success of the event.
