National Painting and Sculpture Camp Inaugurated at Shimla

Shimla, March 18 – The Lalit Kala Akademi, Regional Centre Garhi/Shimla, in collaboration with the Department of Language, Art, and Culture, Government of Himachal Pradesh, inaugurated the National Painting and Sculpture Camp in Shimla today. The week-long camp (March 18–24) provides a platform for artists to explore their creativity amidst the majestic Himalayas.

The event was inaugurated by Captain Rameshwar Singh Thakur, IPS (Retd.), Chairman, Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission, as the Chief Guest. Dr. Pankaj Lalit (IAS), Director, Department of Language, Art, and Culture, graced the event as the Guest of Honour, along with Dr. Nand Lal Thakur, Vice Chairman of the Lalit Kala Akademi, and Shri Rajesh Sharma, Garhi In-Charge.

The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the lamp, followed by a floral welcome for the dignitaries. Dr. Nand Lal Thakur emphasized the transformative power of art and the Akademi’s efforts to promote young talent. Dr. Pankaj Lalit highlighted Himachal’s rich artistic traditions, including Kangra miniature paintings, Chamba Rumal embroidery, and Kullu shawls, stressing the need for platforms that nurture creative expression.
