Multilingual Poets’ Meet Held at Gaiety Theatre on New Year’s Eve

A district-level multilingual poets’ meet was organised by the Department of Language & Culture, Shimla, on New Year’s Eve at the conference hall of Gaiety Theatre, Shimla. The event was inaugurated by eminent writer S R Harnot by lighting the ceremonial lamp, while the proceedings were conducted by Trilok Suryavanshi.

More than 20 poets from Shimla district recited poems touching upon themes of environment, social concerns, women’s voices, labour, inner conflict, hope, and the impact of technology. The session reflected rich linguistic diversity and contemporary relevance.

Deputy Director Kusum Sanghaik attended as the special guest, while the programme was presided over by Mast Ram Sharma, who highlighted the depth and sensitivity required in true poetry. Addressing the gathering, S R Harnot appreciated the poets’ concern over issues like addiction and environmental degradation, and stressed the need for awareness programmes in schools. District Language Officer Sarojna Narwal proposed the vote of thanks.
