Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana Providing Shelter and Dignity to Homeless in Himachal

1 min read

Nahan, August 2, 2025 – The Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana, a flagship initiative of the Himachal Pradesh Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, is proving to be a beacon of hope for economically weaker sections living below the poverty line. The scheme provides a financial grant of ₹1.5 lakh for home construction to homeless families and those residing in dilapidated or unsafe houses, particularly addressing the challenges posed by Himachal’s tough geographical and climatic conditions.

One such beneficiary is 78-year-old Malkeet Kaur from Bhungarni Panchayat in Paonta Sahib, Sirmaur, whose family endured years of hardship living in a crumbling kutcha house. Following the tragic loss of her son and later her husband, Malkeet Kaur’s dreams of a permanent home seemed out of reach. However, through the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana, she received timely financial assistance, which, coupled with MGNREGA support, enabled her to build a secure and dignified home.

Malkeet Kaur expressed heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and the state government for turning her dream into reality, ensuring not just a shelter but also restoring her family’s dignity and sense of security.
