Shimla, September 16

Industries, Parliamentary Affairs, Labour and Employment Minister Harshvardhan Chauhan said that the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector forms the backbone of Himachal Pradesh’s economy. He emphasized that MSMEs not only play a crucial role in employment generation but also foster innovation, entrepreneurship, and inclusive growth.

Addressing a Regional Conclave organized by a leading Hindi daily, the Minister highlighted that the state government is working on a new industrial policy with a special focus on promoting MSMEs. Inputs from industry associations, particularly MSME representatives, will be incorporated to ensure that the policy is practical and beneficial.

Chauhan said the government is considering simplification of Rule 118 of the Himachal Pradesh Tenancy and Land Reforms Act, 1972 to facilitate the establishment of industries. He further informed that land has been identified in border areas to develop modern industrial townships with international-level facilities for entrepreneurs and workers.

The Minister assured MSME representatives that their issues will be addressed effectively at the state level and also raised at the national level. He, however, expressed concern that due to reduced central assistance under various schemes, Himachal Pradesh has received nearly ₹10,000 crore less in the current financial year, posing challenges to the state’s development. Despite this, he reiterated the government’s commitment to making Himachal an ideal state with collective efforts.

Chauhan also announced that a meeting of MSME representatives will soon be convened in Shimla under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

On the occasion, representatives of MSME bodies including Akhil Mohan Aggarwal, President of Laghu Udyog Bharti (Himachal Chapter), Hemraj Chaudhary, State Vice President of Industries Association, and Ashok Rana of Baddi Small Industries Association, shared their views and concerns.
