Monsoon magic in Shoolini University

Belletristic, the literary society of the department of English, Shoolini University, organised their yet another session this week. This session was about poetry which focused on rain, its many moods and influences.

The belletristic session focused on an hour of rain-washed poetry that managed to strike the right chords in the heart of a sensitive soul. It induced feelings of hope and joy, making one feels like dancing in the rain! The poetry session was yet another way to cherish this monsoon season, along with the love for Literature.

The Panelists for the day included the faculty members of English department, Manju Jaidka (HoD), Tej Nath Dhar, Purnima Bali, Neeraj Pizar, Navreet Sahi and Sakshi Sundaram, and several other research scholars.

The session began with the poem recited by Hasan Nassour, ‘Rain’ by Don Paterson. Later, Sonika Thakur came up with her poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, titled ‘How Beautiful Is The Rain!’ Ruchi Barsanta recited the poem ‘Rain on The Roof’ by Coates Kinney, joined by Poulami who recited ‘Summer Shower’ by Emily Dickinson.

The session was then taken over by the faculty members: Navreet Sahi recited ‘The Rainy Day’ by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Neeraj Pizar and Purnima Bali came up with Hindi poems by Harivansh Rai Bachchan, titled ‘Baadal Ghir Aaye’ and ‘Aaj Mujhse Bol’ respectively.From the attendees, Asha Bhandari recited two poems in Hindi that were greatly appreciated.

The session concluded with some more recitations such as ‘The Rainy Day’ by Rabindra Nath Tagore, recited by Sakshi Sundaram; ‘The Voice of The Rain’ by Walt Whitman, recited by Tej Nath Dhar. Manju Jaidka and Purnima Bali also recited their self-composed poems.

The session was full of zeal and enthusiasm and the participants seemed to enjoy the poetic renderings. The icing on the cake was a 2-minute video presentation on various aspects of rain that showed the young and the old enjoying the rain showers, dancing in the rain in tune to lilting rain songs.
