Modi Fulfils Atal’s Dream for Lahaul, Says Jairam

Lahaul/Kelong, June 29, 2025:
Leader of Opposition and former Himachal CM Jairam Thakur praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for fulfilling Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s dream of transforming Lahaul-Spiti, calling the completion of the Atal Tunnel a “vision realised.” Addressing a public gathering during the inauguration of developmental projects worth ₹150 crore under the Prime Minister Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), he criticized the Congress-led Sukhu government for closing institutions established by the previous BJP government and not acknowledging Centre’s assistance.

Jairam highlighted that projects like the high-altitude sports centre, ice skating rink in Spiti, and sewage treatment plant in Keylong were once BJP initiatives that are now being brought to life with central support. He said while the Centre provided over ₹4000 crore in disaster aid and 1.2 lakh houses, the state government failed to express gratitude.

He thanked PM Modi and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju for their four-day tour of tribal Himachal and said their commitment showcases a rare understanding of the region’s challenges. Thakur criticized the state government for only “undoing” previous progress instead of initiating new projects.
