Modern Technology to Aid Tunnel and Bridge Construction in Himachal: Harsh Mahajan

Shimla, July 23: BJP Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan met Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in Delhi and discussed the recent disaster in Himachal Pradesh. Gadkari assured serious efforts to build tunnels and bridges using modern technology to ensure long-term relief. A tunnel project in Pandoh, Mandi, has already been approved, with work to begin soon.

Consultants like IIT Roorkee have been appointed for designing and redesigning tunnels and bridges. Gadkari added that NHAI’s working style will undergo changes to incorporate advanced techniques for road construction and quick repairs of damaged roads.

Mahajan also thanked PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for the financial support provided to Himachal. A high-level committee chaired by Shah has approved ₹2006.40 crore for disaster relief in 2023, with ₹451.44 crore already released on July 7, 2025. Mahajan urged the state government to ensure proper utilization of the funds.
