Public Urged to Cooperate in ‘Operation Abhyas’
Shimla, May 7, 2025:
A high-level meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Shimla, Anupam Kashyap, was held today to coordinate preparations for ‘Operation Abhyas’, a mock drill simulating wartime conditions. The DC directed officials to ensure uninterrupted essential services during the exercise and emphasized the role of civil defence in public awareness and emergency response.
It was informed that all Gram Pradhans and Municipal Councillors will function as wardens during emergencies, supported by around 60 civil defence volunteers. A mock drill was scheduled at 4 PM at the DC Office and Sanjauli Parking, with sirens sounding at the start and end of the 10-minute drill. Citizens were urged to remain calm and support the administration during this preparedness exercise.
Additionally, a citywide blackout was announced from 7:20 PM to 7:30 PM. The public was advised to switch off all lights, remain indoors, and halt vehicles safely on the roadside with lights off.
Officials were also instructed to ensure sufficient stock of essentials including food, fuel, medicines, and medical staff. Departments like PWD, Jal Shakti, and Electricity Board were directed to prepare shelters, secure water sources, ensure fire hydrant functionality, and keep power backups ready.
The DC stressed the importance of proactive communication and round-the-clock preparedness, calling it a matter of national interest.
