Mock Drill Conducted at Pidilite Kala Amb for Chemical Spill Prevention: L.R. Verma

To tackle industrial disasters like fires and chemical spills, a mock drill was organized at M/s Pidilite Unit-3 Rampur Jatan in the industrial area of Kala Amb, Sirmaur district. During the mock drill, Additional District Magistrate L.R. Verma informed that the district disaster management control room received information on Wednesday via telephone number 1077 that a fire had broken out in the raw chemical storage area of M/s Pidilite at 11:00 AM, leading to a chemical spill. As a result, it was simulated that 23 workers present in the current shift had died on the spot, and around 40 other workers and staff members were trapped and injured in the factory.
Upon receiving the information, the district crisis management committee was immediately activated, and teams from the police, fire department, home defense, health services, NDRF, and SDRF were dispatched for relief and rescue operations at the incident site. The injured were taken to the Medical College Nahan for treatment. The mock drill process was completed by approximately 12:59 PM.
The Additional District Magistrate mentioned that the mock drill involved 25 NDRF members, 10 SDRF members, 9 home defense members, 4 fire department members, 5 health department members, 3 police officers, QRT, 13 NYK members, 28 local panchayat members, 208 Pidilite industry members, 30 district crisis management committee members, along with the Tehsildar Nahan and local administration officials.
Post the mock drill, the Additional District Magistrate instructed the industry department to organize awareness and training camps in industries to handle industrial disasters. He emphasized that all departments should establish coordination to minimize loss of life and property during a disaster.
For control and monitoring during the mock drill, SDM Salim Azam, Assistant Commissioner Gaurav Mahajan, and other members of the district crisis management committee were present in the meeting hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
